Appointment is not required for the consulate in Edinburgh. Only the applicants residing in the following regions can apply at this consulate: Scotland, Cleveland and Redcar, Cumbria, Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Northumberland, Stockton on Tees, Tyne and Wear (Tyneside) and North Yorkshire without Selby.

EUR 60 payable in GBP only.
Free for spouses of EU or German nationals.
All fees to be paid in cash only.
An additional postage charge of GBP 6 is applicable for applications made at the consulate in Edinburgh if the applicant desires them to be posted back but does not submit a prepaid self addressed special delivery envelope.

Passport
|
Need to be valid for more than 3 months beyond the validity of the requested visa, with 2 blank visa pages to affix the visa sticker. British Residence Permit must also exceed by more than 3 months the validity of the requested visa.

Accommodation
|
Confirmed hotel booking covering all your stay in the Schengen countries.
|
Transportation
|
Confirmation of airline, rail or bus ticket. If driving then ferry confirmation, registration document, proof of legal ownership of vehicle and insurance papers are required.
|
Financial Means
|
Proof of funds to support the travel. Recent bank statements or travellers cheques are accepted as proof. Cash is not acceptable proof.
|
Status Proof
|
Letter from employer/school/university/college where applicable.
|
Travel Insurance
|
Travel insurance for the whole period of travel with a minimum amount of EUR 30,000 covering any medical, hospitalisation and repatriation costs valid for all member Schengen states.
|
Letter of Invitation
|
Required only if the applicant has been invited by a private person or visiting friends and family. An invitation letter and a copy of the passport data page from the host in Germany or the page with residence permit if the host is not German.

Self addressed mail
|
A self-addressed pre-paid special delivery envelope for the return of the passport if the applicant desires it to be sent back by post.

Postal Application:
|
Postal applications accepted only from applicants who have had a Schengen visa from the German Embassy London issued within the past 12 months.
A self-addressed Special Delivery envelope and the visa fee in postal orders needs to be enclosed with the application.

Visa Application Procedure:
|
Consulate in London: Applicant needs to turn up at the embassy at the time of appointment. Copies of all supporting documents are to be provided else a charge of 40p per copy will be charged by the embassy.
Consulate in Edinburgh: Applicants can turn up and apply for the visa at the consulate between 9:00-12hrs Monday to Friday. Copies of all supporting documents are to be provided. There is no facility to make copies at this embassy.

Visa Collection Procedure:
|
Consulate in London: Passport can be collected in person or can be requested to be posted back. If the applicant desires the passport to be posted back then a self-addressed Special Delivery envelope needs to be provided during the application submission.
Consulate in Edinburgh: Passports are normally posted back by registered mail. They can be collected in person at 13:30hrs on Tuesday and Thursday only.
